All Travel Players to Receive a New Green Helmet

With the goal of reducing concussions among youth hockey players, recently USA Hockey (under the direction of Dr. Michael Stuart, USA Hockey’s chief medical officer and co-director of the Mayo Clinic’s Sports Medicine Center and Dr. Alan Ashare, chair of USA Hockey’s Safety & Protective Equipment Committee) has adopted a concussion management program. As a member of USA Hockey, AJH has adopted their program and are placing concussion awareness at the forefront of player development in 2014. In cooperation with USA Hockey, AJH will offer extensive educational training for coaches, players, and parents.  Furthermore, to help raise awareness about player safety in 2014-15, AJH plans to purchase new helmets and cages for all players participating on competitive travel teams. This will provide protective consistency for all our players without mandating families to spend more money on equipment.

After reviewing 13 helmets made by 5 different manufacturers, Aspen has chosen the Warrior Krown 360. The top priority for choosing a helmet is fit. No matter how expensive, technologically advanced or protective the helmet model is, if the one on you head doesn’t fit correctly, it won’t be protective. The Krown 360 offers a comfortable fit that is also arguably the most customized on the market. Warrior’s 4-Play fit system allows the helmet to adjust not only front to back, as most helmets do, but side-to-side as well. This creates a secure, custom fit for even the most oddly shaped heads out there. It is adjusted by a single dial in the back of the helmet to keep fitting easy. The padding of the helmet is layered, EPP foam for lightweight protection from high-energy impacts, IMPAX molded foam for protection against low energy impacts and comfort foam pads add stability and cushioning. Krown Silver Facemask is designed for optimum vision, includes a multi-density adjustable floating chin cup.

This season only, all competitive travel players (except high school/midget players) will receive a FOREST GREEN Warrior Krown 360 with a facemask free of charge. In addition to the head protection provided by Warrior, the new green look for Aspen Junior Hockey better reflects the Leafs brand while creating a newer and stronger identity for the club. Aspen Junior Hockey will be the only youth hockey association in the state wearing green, and the only association going above and beyond to proactively raise concussion awareness.
