In Early 2015 Player Development Improves

Off-ice Training Facility:

In early 2015, the Aspen Leafs are changing- or better yet improving with the addition of an off-ice shooting and stick handling training room.  After working closely with the Aspen Recreation Center, in late August, Aspen Junior Hockey received approval from the City Council to officially execute a long-term lease authorizing the construction of a 1,000 square foot off-ice shooting and training center exclusively for AJH use.  The room connects the existing AJH equipment room to the coaches’ locker room and jersey storage room, replacing the existing men’s locker storage room at Lewis Arena. In the empty space provided, AJH plans to line the floor with artificial ice, and install several shooting galleries and space for stickhandling and passing stations.  Space is also reserved for age appropriate equipment supporting circuit-training methods designed to teach and refine balance, agility, coordination, quickness, explosiveness, and speed.  AJH will also use the space to conduct classroom training and hold meetings.  Information regarding the progress of this exciting and important upgrade to Aspen Junior Hockey will continue through the fall.

Locker room 6 at Lewis Arena (directly under the AJH office) becomes the new home to 50 men’s locker storage units moved from the new off-ice training space.  As part of the lease, AJH now manages the 50 lockers, which are available to all AJH boys and the general public.  The terms and conditions of the lockers reflect the same terms and conditions offered by the City for locker units at the Ice Garden and lockers in the Women’s locker room at Lewis.  For boys, starting October 1, a six-month locker rental agreement is available for $150 ($25 per month).  Until construction begins, AJH is only offering only 45 units; five more units become available after construction begins and all lockers are relocated.
