19U Girls Crowned Champs in Final FFO game

The Aspen 19U Girls team concluded three straight weekends of Fall Faceoff Tournament action with a convincing 5-0 victory over the Steamboat Springs Sailors. After stumbling to the Lady RoughRiders (Denver) in game two of pool play action, the Leafs put together an impressive run outscoring their opponents by a lopsided 27-7 margin. Cally Erickson led the team and tournament in scoring with 14 points (7 goals, 7 assists). Brook Pisani finished second with 11 points (8 goals, 3 assists), and Caroline Godfrey finished third with 10 points (8 goals, 2 assists). In her first season with the 19U team, goaltender Sonya Benson finished the weekend with solid 1.50 goals against average and one shutout. An impressive defensive performance by Aspen provided Benson the boost she needed, as the team held their opponents to a stingy average of 9.8 shots per game. Head Coach Elizabeth Severy was all smiles after collecting another Fall Faceoff title, her first as a coach... "It was so fun to see the girls come together as a team in their first weekend of hockey. This is a fantastic group of hard-working players, and I'm really looking forward to the rest of the season."

The 2014 Fall Faceoff officially concluded after the 19U Girls hoisted the championship banner Sunday afternoon. In three weekends, Aspen Junior Hockey hosted 77 teams from Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and New Mexico. The Fall Faceoff brings in well over a million dollars in revenue for Aspen and Snowmass businesses.
