Daniel Doremus is First Leafs Alum to Ink an NHL Contract

Aspen native Daniel Doremus (son of Andrew and Jeanne) recently signed a professional contract with the NHL's San Jose Sharks.  On April 5th, he reported to the Shark's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate in Wocester, MA.  With the top eight teams in two conferences advancing to the AHL's Calder Cup playoffs, Doremus joins the Worcester Sharks at a crucial time.  His new team currently sits in seventh place in the Eastern Conference, and needs just three more wins in their final eight games of the regular season to clinch a playoff spot.

Except for one season in Switzerland, Doremus played for Aspen Junior Hockey through his junior year of high school. He was named all-conference and all-state in two seasons playing for the Aspen Skiers before leaving for AAA midget hockey in Denver his senior year.  Doremus returned to Aspen after the 2009-10 hockey season to finish high school and graduate as an AHS Skier (2010). The following season, he recorded 35 points (19 goals, 16 assists) in 57 USHL junior hockey games for the Sioux Falls Stampede.  He joined the Denver University Pioneers in 2011

In 2013-14, Doremus received NCHC Academic All-Conferece recognition for having a cumulative GPA above 3.0.  He also helped lead the Pioneers to an inaugural NCHC championship, an NCAA tournament berth, and was named the NCHC Tournament MVP. This past season as a senior, Doremus was chosen as an alternate captain, and helped lead DU to a quarterfinal appearance in the NCAA tournament with a 24-14-2 overall record.  He finished the season with 34 points (11 goals, 23 assists), and led the team with a plus-24 ranking. In four years as a Pioneer, Doremus amassed 90 points (36 goals, 54 assists).
