A Complete Summary of Aspen Leafs Action 20U-10U

20U Leafs:

The 20U Leafs defeated the Colorado Thunderbirds Friday night 5-1.  Hayden Knight led the team with two goals, and goaltender Mike Cowell stopped 18 shots. In game two of the series Saturday night, after a 1-0 first period start, the Leafs offense exploded with seven goals in the second period and third periods for an 11-1 victory.  Ivan Bondarenko and Tom Bowe both recorded hat-tricks and goaltender Anders Brucker made 27 saves.  The Leafs outshot the Thunderbirds 52-28. With the weekend sweep, the Leafs moved into sole possession of first place in the RMJHL with a 14-2 record.

19U Lady Leafs:

The Aspen 19U Lady Leafs began their season with a weekend sweep over the Colorado Select.  Goaltender Sonya Benson finished the weekend perfect stopping 35 total shots in two shut-out victories.  In game one Saturday, Brooke Pisani, Katie Peshek, and Kelsey Fitzgerald all scored in the first period, enough to secure the win (3-0).  On Sunday, Fia Palmberg scored in the second period and Ali McNichhol scored in the third, as the Leafs skated to a 2-0 victory and an opening MSGHL weekend sweep.

14U Lady Leafs:

In a weekend MSGHL series hosting the Colorado Select, the Lady Leafs 14U Girls displayed some offensive firepower on Saturday with a 6-0 win.  Jaelin Nakagawa led the team with two goals, and four other players added to the total: Anja Simpson and Laney Martens scored in the second period, and Kristen Spang and Amanda Simeone finished the Select off in the third period.  Sammie Jaworski recorded 11 saves in the shut-out win.  On Sunday, the offensive play turned defensive.  After giving up the first goal late in the first period, it took a last minute goal by Lillian Cassidy to salvage the tie and gain an important MSGHL point.  Jaworski was once again solid in net, stopping 14 shots.

12U Lady Leafs:

As the state runner-up last season, hosting the defending state champs (Colorado Select) for a pair of MSGHL games held a separate meaning beyond just league games.  It provided the Lady Leafs an opportunity to display their rapid improvement, and make a statement that they are a legitimate contender again this season.  On Saturday the Select skated to a 4-0 win.  On Sunday the Leafs kept it close but were once again unable to get on the scoreboard, and lost their second straight game 2-0.  Goaltender Linea Earl stopped 19 shots in the series.

12U Peewee A:

The Aspen Leafs continued their domination of CDYHL opponents with a three-game sweep over Steamboat Springs by a combined score of 25-7.  In game one Wilder Jacober tallied five points (2 goals, 3 assists), Brooks Bond recorded three points (2 goals, 1 assist), and Eli Hunt netted two goals in an 8-2 Aspen victory.  In game two, Bond netted a hat-trick and four other Leafs skaters scored for a 7-1 win.  The offense exploded again on Sunday with 10 goals to collect the three-game series sweep (10-4).  Nick Pevny registered four points (1 goal, 3 assists), and Hunt continued to light the lamp with 2 goals and 2 assists.  Goaltender Zach Small made 31 saves on the weekend.

12U Peewee B:

The Aspen Peewee B team opened CDYHL action by hosting four games against Craig and Steamboat Saturday and Sunday.  The Leafs made a strong statement early by outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 39-4.  Aspen defeated Craig Saturday 8-2 and 13-1, and dismantled Steamboat Sunday 10-0 and 8-1.  Brady Conrardy led the team with an impressive 17 points (9 goals, 8 assists).  Braden Haisfield had 12 points (7 goals, 5 assists), and Quinn Bowden netted 11 points (8 goals, 3 assists).  Goaltender Brannon Bridger finished the weekend with 38 saves and an impressive 1.07 goals against average and a 90.7 save percentage.

10U Squirt B:

The Leafs Squirt B team went 0-3-1 in the Vail Sportsmanship Tournament over the weekend.  Facing tough front-range competition, Aspen quickly learned the importance of playing hard for three full periods.  The Leafs dropped games to Arapahoe (2-6), Littleton (0-5) and the Evolution (1-5).  On Friday, Aspen skated to a 4-4 tie against CDYHL rival Summit.  Ryder Rondeau led the team in scoring with 4 goals.  Paul Schenck, Dayton Schenck, Thyler Oliver and RJ Stoll each registered 2 points, and goaltender Jeremiah Swenson made 41 saves.

10U Squirt C:

With a short bench due to Thanksgiving travel, the Leafs Squirt C faced some tough competition and learned some valuable lessons at the Vail Sportsmanship Tournament.  Like the Squirt B team, they learned the value and importance of playing at full speed for three full periods, and looking to teammates to pass and make plays.  In four games against top competition, the Leafs finished 0-4 with losses to Northern Colorado (0-2), Denver Country Club Red and White (0-9 and 1-4), and Littleton (0-9).  Jack Freitas scored the lone goal off an assist from Breccan Bridger.  Splitting time in net, Will Haneman made 35 saves and Eddie Zane stopped 21 shots.
