Aspen Leafs 10U Girls Participate in Gunnison Jamboree

The state of girls hockey in the Rocky Mountain region is strong and continues to expand as reflected in the recent West Elk 10U Girls Jamboree.  The Aspen Girls, coached by our AJH Girls Hockey Coordinator Emily Knutsen, travelled to Gunnison over the weekend for the first event of this kind hosted by the West Elk Wolverine Hockey Club. The Leafs joined Vail and New Mexico in this two day round-robin experience.  Aspen finished strong with a lot of smiles and a genuine excitement for more weekends like this in the future.

As Aspen continues to lead the state organizing the girls game at the 10U level and beyond, many other programs are quickly catching up.  Last season the Leafs were only one of three 10U teams in the state.  This season several other programs have started, including the recent team from the Gunnison valley.  Next season, more associations have announced plans to expand 10U girls programming, and the state is on track to organize a full schedule of monthly events.  Aspen plans to host the first event for 10U girls in November.
