A message from the AJH Executive Director

Dear Members,
It’s hard to believe that the end of the 2016-17 hockey season is approaching so fast.  This has been a tremendous season for Aspen Junior Hockey.  With the support and help of Kalle Väliaho (manager of Finnish youth hockey) we have  been exposed to a system that ensures the long-term success for all our players.  Behind the scenes this season, we have built and continue to polish a comprehensive on-ice and off-ice training curriculum that includes annual development plans based on the science of long-term athletic development and brain-based learning.  Our curriculum exceeds the long-term athletic development standards promoted by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), United States Olympic Committee (USOC), and USA Hockey.  Furthermore, our hockey specific annual development plans are the first to be implemented in the United States.  Next season our coaches will be prepared to deliver this impressive and comprehensive program on day 1.  To maintain our momentum, we have humbly solidified a 10-year partnership with the Finnish Ice Hockey Association (FIHA), and look forward to a continued relationship with Kalle to ensure our kids continue to receive world-class player development throughout their youth hockey careers.

In the next few days, a third party (Disentropy Consulting) will be sending a survey to all members that will help guide our process of continuous improvement for the off-season. Your participation and open/direct feedback are invaluable sources of information to our organization; all answers will be kept confidential and not used for marketing of any kind.   You may remain anonymous if you wish, and only need to enter your email address if you want to be eligible for one of two prizes: one free pair skies from Four Mountain Sports (up to $1,000 value), and one free AJH membership for the 2017-18 season (excludes 20U Juniors).  Throughout the survey, please keep in mind the mission and goals of AJH (http://www.aspenjuniorhockey.com/missionandgoals)

Finally, below are important dates for Aspen Junior Hockey.  As the season winds down, with the help of managers, I will be providing more detailed information for specific teams as needed. Please note that AJH will be providing supplemental on-ice and off-ice training opportunities this spring.  Details regarding spring hockey options will be released in the coming weeks.  Good luck to all AJH teams competing in the upcoming MSGHL, CDYHL, and CAHA State playoffs!
