Major Announcement from the Colorado Amateur Hockey Association

With a unified vision and plan based on genuine cooperation and collaboration,Colorado is taking unprecedented steps to advance Girls hockey to a level never achieved before.  Fully supported by CAHA and the Colorado Avalanche, leaders from the Colorado Select, Rocky Mountain Lady Roughriders, the Colorado Springs Tigers, Aspen Junior Hockey, and the Littleton Hawks are unified and committed to implement a structure for Tier-1 and Tier-2 hockey at the 19U and 16U age divisions.  Our goal is to maximize player development, character building and national exposure by providing an elite program that puts Colorado players FIRST

Sanctioned by CAHA, starting this fall, only ONE national bound Tier-1 19U (AAA) team and ONE national bound 16U Tier-1 (AAA) team will operate in Colorado.  Under the unified banner of Team Colorado, these two teams (based out of the Denver metro area) will organize high performance training and provide competitive exposure, giving Colorado players a legitimate opportunity to realize their potential and achieve their hockey dreams.

In addition to only one Tier-1 national bound full season team at both the 19U and 16U age divisions, a highly organized and robust statewide Tier-2 (AA) league is planned for 19U, 16U and 14U players.  Without having several diluted AAA teams competing for the same players, girls now have a legitimate competitive option to develop their game at home, and play in state games at a high competitive level.  All Tier-2 (AA) league teams participating next season have national bound status (the ability to compete for a national tournament berth).

Supplemental Team Colorado “AAA” tournament teams will be organized at the 19U/16U and 14U age divisions from teams participating in the Tier-2 leagues.  Much like the 14U Team Colorado tournament team organized the past two seasons, Colorado girls will travel 2-3 times to play the best teams in the nation while gaining valuable collegiate exposure.  With a broad group of Colorado players coming together for competition, these teams will also promote cooperation, teamwork, and a genuine sense of pride for Colorado Girls hockey.

The two national bound Tier-1 teams (19U and 16U), the new Tier-2 league (19U, 16U, and 14U), and the AAA tournament teams are being organized and operated exclusively and collaboratively by the leadership from the Colorado Select, Lady Roughriders, Colorado Springs, Aspen, Littleton, and CAHA.  Tryouts will be held in mid to late May.  Details regarding tryouts and the coaching staff for both the full season Tier-1 teams and tournament teams are coming soon…
