Aspen Junior Hockey panel event

Aspen Historical Society has partnered with Aspen Junior Hockey (AJH) to showcase the history of the club as part of the 2018 Time Travel Tuesdays series. On Tuesday, February 13th, representatives from AJH including John McBride, Shaun Hathaway, Evan Boenning, Elizabeth Stewart-Severy and Andrew Doremus, will share first-hand stories about the origins of the sport in the area and their experiences with AJH as coaches, parents and players. The discussion, moderated by AHS Marketing Director Eliza Burlingame, will explore how AJH has impacted the careers and lives of young athletes across several generations.

The complete Time Travel Tuesday series will feature the history of three winter-season youth sports organizations in moderated panel discussions with past and present athletes, coaches, parents, and club administrators from: the two local figure skating clubs (Feb 6), Aspen Junior Hockey (Feb 13), and Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club (Feb 20). To celebrate the spirit of the 2018 Winter Olympics, the final panel will feature athletes with connections to our small mountain town who have reached the pinnacle of their sports and represent the United States at the Olympic games. This final presentation, hosted in the theater at the Wheeler Opera House, will focus on the Olympians' experiences with sports as kids: how clubs, family, mentors, coaches, and perhaps even the support of a community, shaped the many roads from Aspen to the Olympics.
