9-15-21 Update

AJH Members, please see the update from the City and Pitkin County Health Board.

Thank you,

AJH

_____________________________________________

Good morning,

As I am sure many of you have already heard that Pitkin County has approved an indoor mask mandate.  This will go into effect beginning tomorrow. This will be for every program and entry into Recreation facilities.  The positive is that this is only for wearing masks and does not include social distancing or capacity reductions.  I know that this will impact all of us, but I am confident that we can all safely do all these activities as we were doing this 4 months ago.  Based on the CDC guideline to come out of the mask mandate our community must be at low to moderate levels for 21 straight days.  So I anticipate that masks will be around for some time.  I am sure many of you will have questions and I encourage you to reach out to me or any of our team members.

Subject: Anticipated Mask Mandate for Thursday, September 16

The Board of Health directed the Pitkin County Public Health team to craft an indoor mask order due to the continued spread of COVID-19 locally. A final decision regarding the mandate will be made tomorrow afternoon with it becoming effective Thursday, September 16. As we wait for more information, visit our Healthy Best Practices web page and continue keeping yourself and the community safe.

It is with deep regret that the Pitkin County Public Health team reports an additional death due to COVID in our community. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and loved ones that have been impacted by this loss. This marks the fifth death due to COVID since March of 2020. The public health team encourages everyone to continue to practice mitigation measures such as getting vaccinated, wearing masks and getting tested to protect you and those you love from COVID.

An important safety step to planning travel and leisure activities is getting tested for COVID-19. If you think you have been exposed to someone who is COVID positive or someone who has been showing symptoms of COVID-19, visit ourTesting Site Finder to locate a testing site that works for you. Keep in mind the time to receive results can vary -- so plan ahead and review this information as you do.

The Aspen Airport COVID-19 testing facility reopened Friday, September 3rd in the airport cell phone lot. The reopening also addresses the need for additional testing capacity in the event a person is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or has had a known exposure. Testing is free and available Monday through Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (days and times subject to change). Appointments are helpful but not required.

Visit our website to check out updates to the Quarantine/Isolation page. There are now separate tables/sections advising the actions to take for unvaccinated individuals, as well as vaccinated individuals. Reference this page if you're unsure of the steps to take if you are asymptomatic or exposed to COVID-19.

LOCATION DETAILS

The Pitkin County Public Health vaccine team is planning for community interest in an additional COVID-19 vaccine dose or booster should the federal government issue an approval and guidelines. It is anticipated that the decision on boosters will be released sometime later this month.

9-7-21 Updates

Dear Community Partners,

To support the shared goals to keep kids and staff in school to the greatest extent possible, prevent transmission of COVID-19 within the school and childcare settings, and create a learning environment where everyone feels both emotionally and physically safe, Pitkin County Public Health issued a Public Health Order requiring facial coverings, which will go into effect tomorrow, August, 18, 2021.

The order, approved by the Pitkin County Board of Health, requires mask wearing in the following situations for all individuals two years of age and older regardless of vaccination status:

  • While indoors in any preschool through grade 12 school building anywhere in Pitkin County; this includes classrooms, hallways and common areas

  • While indoors at any childcare center or childcare facility, regardless of licensing status

  • While indoors and participating in a youth camp, youth extracurricular activity, youth gym activities, and youth sport. This requirement applies to all participants, attendees, spectators, staff, volunteers, and coaches

Masks are not required while students and staff are interacting outdoors.

For more information and a full list of frequently asked questions, please see our FAQs and Facial Covering Guidance for Sports.

Thank you,

Laryssa Dandeneau, MS, CHES

Most significantly, moving from Level Yellow to Level Blue will mean increases in capacity for each sector. To learn more about what Level Blue will mean for each sector in Pitkin County see below.

As Pitkin County continues to follow Dial 3.0, all businesses must follow capacity limits as outlined by the state in Level Blue. Please refer to the CDPHE Capacity Restrictions table for operating requirements.

In Level Blue, Certified 5 Star businesses are not authorized to operate at Level Green capacity under Level Blue. However, Certified 5 Star businesses in Level Blue in the sectors listed below may operate at the following levels:

  • Restaurants may operate at 100% capacity with 6 feet distancing between parties.

  • Indoor Events may operate at 50% capacity or 500 people, depending on seated or unseated.

  • Recreation, including gyms, recreation centers and pools, may operate at 100% capacity with 6 feet distancing between non-household members.

  • Personal Services may allow up to 50 additional people beyond the Level Blue limits.

All other non-certified businesses must follow capacity limits as outlined by the state in Level Blue. Please refer to the table below for operating requirements.

In addition to business requirements, under Level Blue everyone must continue to take the following actions:

  • Individuals in Pitkin County are required to wear a mask in indoor public settings and in outdoor settings where 6 ft. distancing cannot be maintained from non-household members.

  • When you go out, follow physical distancing requirements (6 feet of space between yourself and others).

  • People who have COVID-19 symptoms should get tested.

  • There is no longer a state limit on personal gathering sizes in private settings under levels green, blue and yellow. Please follow CDC’s guidance on personal gatherings. The CDC still strongly recommends avoiding larger gatherings and crowds to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Even in light of these COVID-19 Dial changes and the number of vaccinations being provided, the community, from individuals to businesses, is being asked to continue to follow disease prevention steps such as wearing a face mask, not gathering with those outside your household, maintaining social distance and washing hands frequently so that we can continue to operate at these levels.

Pitkin County will continue to follow Dial 3.0 until at least May 27. The success of graduating from Dial 3.0 hinges on these next few weeks as we continue to see decreasing disease spread and increases in the number of community members vaccinated. If you have not yet received a vaccine, you are encouraged to get vaccinated as soon as possible. You can find a vaccine clinic by visiting our vaccine finder at https://covid19.pitkincounty.com/vaccine/clinic-info/#vaccination-providers

12-21-20 Pitkin County Update

Hello Community Partners,

Today the Pitkin County Board of Health voted to implement Red level restrictions across most sectors while maintaining operating capacity for restaurants over the next two weeks. Restaurants will continue to operate at 25% occupancy with a 9:30 p.m. last call and 10:00 p.m. closure but are limited to only seating single households.

Cases in Pitkin County are exponentially increasing. In the past seven days the disease investigation team has logged 162 new cases. 50% of all of Pitkin County’s COVID-19 cases since March have been reported in the past month and 20% in the past seven days. Currently Pitkin County has one of the highest incidence rates on the Western slope. While other counties have seen a plateau or decreasing trend in their numbers, Pitkin County has continued to see a staggering increase in its incidence rate and a special Board of Health meeting was called today to address the concerns.

“These red level restrictions with capacity for restaurants to still operate is what we need - everything we can do outside of a total shutdown,” said Torre, City of Aspen Mayor. “If each one of us does our part, we can be successful to slow disease transmission in our community.”

Pitkin County Restrictions under new Public Health Order:

  • Personal gathering sizes are reduced to zero. Only congregate with your own household. This applies to all lodging reservations and accommodations.

  • Restaurants permitted to operate at 25% occupancy with 9:30 p.m. last call and 10 p.m. closure

    • Only seat groups of same households

  • Group camps - virtual or outdoors no more than 10.

  • Critical and non-critical retail - 50% capacity with curbside pickup encouraged

  • Personal services - 25% capacity up to 25 people

  • Office - 10% capacity

  • Gyms - 10% capacity up to 10 people per room. Reservations required.

  • Events:

    • No indoor events as of 12/20. No additional indoor Event Safety Plans will be accepted.

      • Indoor Events with an ESP submitted as of yesterday (12/20/20) are permitted.

      • ESP's submitted after 12/20/20 for Indoor Events will not be permitted.

    • Outdoor events are still permitted at 25% capacity or 60 people

  • Outdoor guided services - 25% capacity up to 10 people

  • Traveler Affidavit: All persons traveling, including residents, are required to complete the Traveler Affidavit (including testing and quarantine requirements) if they have been gone from Pitkin County for more than 10 days.

What is a household?

  • Anyone who currently lives in and shares common spaces in your housing unit (house or apartment)

  • Households can include family members and or people who aren’t related to you, like roommates

  • People who don’t currently live with you (for example, college students who return home from school on breaks) are part of different households.

12-7-20 Update

Hockey Families-

AJH is super excited that we have strict clearance for individual skills & drills sessions to start back this Friday, the 4th. The session is not mandated, and ice slots are for individual performance drills.

Please beware that this will be zero tolerance for individuals who are at these sessions. You will have to follow the guidelines below; if you are unable, the individual age session will forfeit that time slot. PLEASE follow this to keep all individuals to have the opportunity to be on the ice for these workouts.

·      Athletes to arrive half dressed

·      You may ONLY enter the facility (Lewis & Ice Garden) 15 minutes before the ice session time; no exceptions

·      Mask MUST be worn at all times entering and exiting the facility

·      Masks MUST be on at all times while on ice. (AJH can provide a CCM mask that attaches to your helmet if needed)

·      Athletes need to exit the facility within 15 minutes of their ice time ending

·      Individuals to bring their water bottle

·      Temp checks to be taken before entering facilities

·      DO NOT come to ice sessions if you do not feel well

·      Social distancing must be adhered to on and off the ice

·      Managers to keep trace logging for each session

We're very appreciative of the City and County's support to extend this safety plan for individuals to return to the ice; once again, please make sure your athlete is aware of all mandated guidelines.

Regards,

Aspen Junior Hockey

Aspen Recreation Center Update 11-13-20

Aspen Junior Hockey Families-

I hope you're keeping safe and doing well. AJH wanted to provide an update to you all as we see the shift in COVID-19 cases. With the surge hitting our community, the City of Aspen regrettably informed us that the Aspen Recreation Center would be closing for two weeks starting at 6 AM Wednesday, November 18th.  Unfortunately for our youth, it'll be disappointing, but we hope it is short-lived. With some optimism, AJH expects our community can bounce back during this time, and we'll soon have the opportunity to be back in the rink before we know it. Aspen Junior Hockey appreciates each member's support and for entrusting your athletes with our program in their development. At the same time, we'll continue to do our best to keep them as safe as possible in these times.

We continue to talk with the City and their staff, and we'll keep our fingers crossed this shift goes back into our favor soon. AJH hopes our programs can return to our planned schedule Wednesday, December 2nd. We’ll continue to inform our members as soon as we hear more.

We wish everyone a safe and healthy Thanksgiving holiday.

Sincerely,

Harlan

Pitkin County Health Update 11-9-20

To our Pitkin County Community:

On Tuesday, November 3, 2020 Pitkin County received official notification from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) that recent trends in the local spread of COVID-19 could result in the community being moved to the High Risk: Safer At Home, or “Orange” category of the state’s COVID Dial Dashboard. The county has two weeks to bring the community’s metrics back down.

The COVID case incidence rate continues to climb across the state. While some of our neighboring counties have seen incidence rates in the red dial level the past week, Pitkin County has seen incidence rates rise to the orange dial level. As of November 9, 2020, the incidence rate for Pitkin County has risen to 259 cases per 100,000 population. According to information gathered during case investigations by Public Health, the area of biggest concern continues to be disease transmission occurring during private social gatherings, like backyard parties and get-togethers and going to work when sick.

As expected, Pitkin County has been notified to consider “mitigation and containment measures immediately.” This represents the first notification from state partners that Pitkin County is no longer in compliance with the Yellow level of the state’s dial and therefore has limited time to level off and decrease case rates before the state will take action.

We know it’s been a long road and many of us are feeling ‘COVID-19 fatigue’, but we have to talk about our path forward. As a community, we have a choice in what our next few months look like. We can come together to make a concerted effort to:

  • Follow the Five Commitments of Containment

  • Interact with only those in your household - do your best to avoid any social interactions with friends and family outside of your homes throughout the month of November

  • Don’t go to work sick- employers can stress the importance of symptom checks and encourage those with symptoms to get tested. Employers should also consider allowing employees to work from home when feasible, discouraging carpooling, and preventing employees from gathering in indoor spaces like break rooms.

If we can’t reverse the current trend of increasing number of COVID infections, we will be required to move to the Orange level, with stricter capacity limits on restaurants, retail establishments, places of worship, gyms, group sports, and events. According to CDPHE’s guidelines, Level Orange restrictions include (but are not limited to):

  • Retail locations would be limited to 25% capacity.

  • Restaurants would be limited to 25% capacity or 50 people per room, whichever is less.

  • Offices would be limited to 25% of their employees being able to work in person.

  • Gyms and fitness centers would be limited to 25% capacity or 25 people indoors, or outdoors in groups less than 10.

  • Group sports would be limited to virtual or outdoors in groups less than 10.

  • Outdoor events would be limited to 25% capacity or 75 people, whichever is less. Indoor events would be limited to 25% capacity or 50 people, whichever is less.

  • Places of worship would be limited to 25% of the posted occupancy limit indoors, not to exceed 50 people per room, whichever is less.

We have a brief window of opportunity to get our cases under control. So let’s make a choice to take back control of our path ahead. Everyone can help keep our community open by wearing a mask, staying 6 feet from others who don’t live with you, washing your hands, staying home if you are sick, getting tested if you have symptoms, and getting a flu shot. Do it for yourself and for your loved ones, and for all of our fellow Pitkin County neighbors who want to get back to something more like normal. Let’s curb this spike and go into the winter season with health, hope and happiness.

Thank you,

Program Administrator

Pitkin County Public Health

Five Commitments To Containment:

1. Maintain 6 feet of distance from anyone not in your household.

2. Wash your hands often.

3. Wear a mask in public.

4. Stay home when sick.

5. Seek testing immediately and self-report if you experience symptoms.

For general questions about COVID-19, please call the Colorado Health Emergency Line for the Public (CO-HELP) at 1-877-462-2911, 7 days a week from 8 am to 5 pm. You can also email COHELP@RMPDC.org for answers in English, Spanish (Español), Mandarin (普通话), and more.
