The Aspen Leafs 19U AA team claimed the CAHA State Championship by defeating the Littleton Hawks in a best of three series. In the first game, Goaltender Annika Anderson was perfect in next stopping all 32 shots and Paige Schlegel scored the lone goal early in the second period to claim a hard fought 1-0 victory. In game two at the Pepsi Center, Aspen claimed the championship title with a 3-1 win. Juna Rettig scored midway through the first period for an early 1-0 advantage. After giving up a late first period goal, Mia Ammon found the back of the net in the second period to reclaim the lead (2-1). Rettig netted her second goal of the game late the third period, and the defense held on to claim their first state championship title. With the win, Aspen advances to the Rocky Mountain District Championship tournament March 15-18 as the top seed.
The 16U AA Girls went undefeated on the weekend in a three-team double elimination format to claim their second straight CAHA State Championship. In game one against the Colorado Select, after a scoreless first period Aspen exploded with four goals to take a commanding 4-1 lead into the final period. Andi Bierbaum scored twice along with Haley Heinecken and Amanda Simeone. The Leafs held onto the lead in the third period to claim a 4-2 victory. In game two facing the Lady Roughriders, Maia Seltzer opened the scoring for Aspen late in the second period to tie the game 1-1. Midway through the second period, Laney Martens tallied her first of three goals on the weekend evening up the contest 2-2. Her second goal came only 20 seconds into overtime to lift the Leafs to a 3-2 victory. Jaworski made 27 saves in the win. In game three at the Pepsi Center on Sunday morning, Aspen took an early 2-0 lead off first period goals from Casey Chesner and Charlotte Howie. Martens scored the game-winner midway through the third period, and the Leafs defense held on to claim a 3-2 championship win. Goaltender Sammie Jaworski finished the game with 28 saves. With the victory, the 16U Girls also advance to the Rocky Mountain District Championship tournament as the top seed.
