Karen Rickard to Lead "AAA" Tournament Team as Head Coach

This is TEAM COLORADO: http://www.caha.co/teamcolorado

With the continued vision of providing the best possible opportunity for your daughters to train and develop their hockey skill in the state of Colorado, we are pleased to announce the Head Coach for the Team Colorado 14AAA non-national bound tournament team, the 14AAA program details, and initial details for our 16U and 19U Tier I National Bound teams.

The Team Colorado Board of Directors is pleased to announce Coach Karen Rickard as the Head Coach of Team Colorado 14AAA tournament team.  Rickard was most recently the Head Coach of the 19U Tier I team and Director of Hockey at The Colorado Select.  She has been integral in reshaping the competitive girls hockey landscape in Colorado as well as building healthy working relationships with other programs in the state that support girls hockey at both the competitive and recreational levels.

Prior to joining The Colorado Select, Rickard lived in Dallas, TX where she coached girls Tier I and Tier II hockey with The Dallas Stars Elite and worked full time with the Dallas Mavericks NBA team.

Rickard played competitive youth hockey with the Toronto Aeros (Toronto, ON) before accepting a full scholarship to the University of Wisconsin where she received recognition as a stand out student-athlete with awards such as the Jeff Sauer Award, WCHA Player of the Week (twice), WCHA All-Second Team, Big Ten scholar-athlete, and WCHA All Academic team.

14AAA Team Colorado tournament team players should look forward to a full weekend of high performance training in late August and attending three out of state AAA tournaments.  The program sets an unprecedented standard against any other tournament team option offered as it’s designed to work in conjunction with the Tier II Colorado Girls Hockey League, which is fully supported by six (6) governing associations in CAHA.

In this environment, your daughter will have the opportunity to train with a full time, regular season 14U Tier II team (boys or girls), get a true sense of what AAA hockey is on a national level all while minimizing conflicts between schedules.  Rickard brings an unparalleled leadership for this age group in the state of Colorado and intends to provide the best possible experience and guidance for this specific group of young athletes.

What is the 14U Tier II Colorado Girls Hockey League?

The 14U Tier II Colorado Girls Hockey League will be heading into its third year of existence in the 2017-2018 season.  The purpose behind the league is to provide a competitive Tier II option for players in this age bracket to develop their skills as they transition from 12U recreational hockey to Tier II competitive hockey.  The league has grown to five members this season including Littleton Hockey Association, The Rocky Mountain Lady Rough Riders, The Colorado Select, Colorado Springs Amateur Hockey Association, and Aspen Junior Hockey.  Each association hosts one weekend during the course of the regular season and works around the 14AAA Team Colorado schedule allowing elite players at this age level the opportunity to experience AAA hockey before aging up to the 16U and 19U Tier I programs.

The 16U Tier I and 19U Tier I National Bound team’s season schedules have been set. Both Tier I teams will compete in ten (10) Tier I events throughout the 2017-2018 season. Each of the following events has been selected because of their exposure to high caliber competition and NCAA college coaches.

Girls CCM NIT Tournament  (October 20th – 22nd, 2017 Minneapolis, MN)

In accordance with USA Hockey’s high performance training standards the 16U Tier I National Bound and 19U Tier I National Bound Tier I teams can expect to be on the ice 4-5 times per week and 5-6 times per week, respectively.  Players selected for these teams can expect to have a full-fledged strength and conditioning program integrated with the on ice schedule along with college advising, mentorship, and guidance.  Full details and program cost for the 16U and 19U Tier I National Bound teams will be available on or before Monday May 8th, 2017.
