Leafs Defeat San Francisco to Claim Memorial Day Shootout Title

The Aspen Leafs Spring Bantam team traveled to Anaheim, CA over Memorial Day weekend to participate in the Anaheim Ducks Memorial Day Shootout.  For most of the young team, this marked the first time playing competitive full-check hockey, their first test since graduating from Peewee hockey.  Without flinching, they passed with flying colors, claiming the Bantam B tournament championship.  In a hard fought matchup against the San Francisco Sabercats, the Leafs prevailed on the lone goal scored by Quinn Bowden 1-0.  For his efforts, Bowden was also named the MVP of the game.

On route to the championship trophy, the Leafs finished with an impressive 5-1 record.  Their only loss came in pool play action against the Sabercats.   Led by AJH veteran coach Geoff Lubin,  the team started the tournament with a convincing 9-2 victory, and continued to gel from there.  Bowden finished the weekend with  8 points (4 goals, 4 assists), good for second overall in the Bantam B division.  George Morrison tallied 6 points (3 goals, 3 assists), the same number as Braden Haisfield, who led the team with 5 assists (also second overall in the tournament).
