The Aspen Leafs 16U and 19U teams swept the Adele Dombrowski Girls Tournament in Steamboat Springs this past weekend to claim their first championships of the 2017/18 season.
The 16U team went undefeated in pool play beating Steamboat 4-0, the Lady Roughriders 2-0, and Vail 2-1. In the championship game, goaltender Linnea Earl recorded her second shutout as the Leafs defeated the Colorado Select 2-0. She finished with an impressive .978 save percentage and .33 goals against average in three games. Leafs forward Amanda Simeone led the team in scoring with 7 points (6 goals, 1 assist), which included netting both goals in the title game.
The Aspen 19U team, sporting Aspen Skiers colors, also finished the weekend without a loss. Tying their first game 1-1 against Summit, goaltender Sammie Jaworski notched two straight shutouts in pool play competition, a 2-0 win against Steamboat and a 2-0 victory over the Colorado Select. Jaworski finished the weekend with a .964 save percentage and a .50 goals against average. In the final game, Aspen skated to a 2-1 championship victory over host Steamboat. Juna Rettig led the team in scoring with 4 points (3 goals, 1 assists).
