19U A Girls: Aspen improved to 7-1-2 and claimed 3 league points on the road against the West Elk Wolverines.  In a 2-0 game one victory, goaltender Samantha Jaworski recorded her second MSGHL shutout and fifth league win of the season.  Laney Martens opened the scoring late in second period on a penalty shot.  Juna Rettig sealed the victory early in the third period off a feed from Martens.  Aspen outshot West Elk 31-9.  In game two, Aspen was unable to find the back of the net until late in the final period.  Charlotte Howie salvaged the tie on an unassisted even strength goal with just under five minutes remaining in regulation.  For a second straight game, Aspen outshot West Elk (27-19). 

Varsity High School: The Aspen Skiers rolled over mountain rival Battle Mountain 8-2 Friday night, improving to 4-0-1 in CHSAA division play (4-2-1 overall).  After giving up the first goal in the game, Max Ufkes tied the contest and Dominic Lanese added the second Aspen goal for a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.  The Skiers offense scored four more in the second period, which included two power play goals by Finn Allen and Ty Yocum and two even strength goals by Liam Rigney and Henry Ferguson.  Rigney and Lanese finished off the scoring in third period to seal the win.  Goaltender Logan Soderberg continued his stellar season making 13 saves.  Aspen returns to action at the Ice Garden Saturday (January 13) against the Columbine Rebels.  Both teams skated to a 0-0 tie at Foothills Arena in Littleton last month.

Junior Varsity High School: Six different Aspen players scored goals Friday afternoon at Dobson Arena, as the Skiers shut out Battle Mountain Huskies to claim a 6-0 victory.  Ethan Godfrey scored the lone goal in the first period six minutes into the contest.  Paulino Valdes, Richie Simeone, and Ethan Hunt followed up in the second period for a 4-0 lead heading into the second intermission.  In the final period, Ozzy Benson and Connor Allen added to the Aspen lead.  Gage Redman finished the game with 11 saves and recorded his first JV shutout win of the season. 

16U A Girls: The Leafs travelled to Gunnison for a pair of MSGHL games against the West Elk Wolverines, and returned home with a four league points and a 6-2 overall record in league play.  In game one, Casey Chesner registered a hat trick, and Addie Welden, Amanda Simeone and Lillian Cassidy rounded out the scoring for a 6-4 victory.  In game two, Chesner notched another hat trick, scoring three goals in the second period.  She scored her fourth goal in the game early in the third period to lift Aspen to a 6-3 win.  Simone added two more to her season total with goals early in the second period and late in the third.  Goaltender Ruby Dolan made 31 total saves in the weekend series. 

Bantam A: The Leafs spent the weekend at Howelsen Arena for a three game series against the Steamboat Stampede.  Looking to snap a three game winless streak, the Leafs came up empty handed against a stronger and faster Steamboat squad.  In game one goaltender Zach Small led the way providing his team a chance by making 33 saves on 35 shots.  However, the Aspen offense was unable to mount a sustained attack, ultimately dropping game one 2-0.  In game two, goals by George Morrison and Quinn Bowden kept the game close before Steamboat pulled away midway through the third period defeating the Leafs 6-2.   Aspen struggled to find any momentum in the final game of series Sunday afternoon, dropping their sixth straight league game 7-1.  Carson Miller scored the lone goal in the loss.  The Leafs have their work cut for them as they look forward to a three game series on the road against undefeated Vail January 20/21.   

Bantam B: Aspen claimed four of six possible league points on the road against the Steamboat Stampede.  Early Saturday morning, forward Braden Haisfield scored the first and last goals of the game in a 5-2 loss.  In game two Saturday night, Aspen remained extremely disciplined against a rough and tumble Steamboat team that recorded 46 penalty minutes on 15 infractions.  Quinn Bowden started the scoring in the first period with a power play goal.  He followed up with an even strength goal just over 1 minute into the second period.  Lags Simeone, Martin Scanlan and Jonas Kohout added to the scoring, and the Leafs skated away with a 5-1 victory.  On Sunday morning George Morrison recorded the first and last goals of the game in the first and third periods.  Carter Schmela and Reece Hart both scored in the second period, while goaltender Brannan Bridger was solid in net stopping 12 of 13 shots.

Peewee B: The Leafs were on the road in Vail for a long duel series against both Mountaineers teams (Vail Blue and Vail Red), who were both sitting at the top of the CDYHL standings with undefeated records.  In game one of the first series on Saturday, Aspen handed Vail Blue its first defeat 6-3.  Ryder Rondeau and Ryan Rigney both netted two goals with Treven Ward and Lucas Johnson rounding out the scoring.  Jeremiah Swenson stopped 25 of 28 shots in the win.  In game 2, Aspen struggled to find the back of the net and gave up three goals in a 3-1 loss.  Cooper Russell scored the lone Aspen goal early in the first period.  On Sunday, once again Aspen notched six goals, including three straight in the third period to claim a 6-5 victory over Vail Red.  Rondeau registered a hat trick, Russell notched 2 goals, and Rigney recorded his fifth goal of the season.  Goaltender Eddy Zane stopped 27 of 32 shots.  In the final game Sunday afternoon, the Leafs struggled to contain the Vail Blue offense and dropped their second game of the weekend 8-4.  Lars Earl and Brecon Bridger each tallied their first goals of the season with Ward and Rondeau rounding out the scoring. 

Squirt A: The Leafs were home for the weekend hosting Telluride for a three game league series.   With Telluride claiming a state championship last season, it was expected to be a competitive series.  Aspen however dominated all three games by a jaw dropping combined score of 34-3.  In game one on Saturday, Josh Ness recorded his first hat trick in league play this season. Ryder Cohan, and Jack Freitas netted two goals, and Cameron Dioguardi, Dylan Ness and Rupert Ingram rounded out the scoring.  Goaltender Blake Johnson had a quiet day in net stopping only five total shots to record his first shutout this season in the 10-0 victory.  Later in the day, the Aspen offense exploded as the Leafs outscored the Lizard Heads 15-2.  Josh Ness continued his goal-scoring streak with six goals along with Freitas, who registered his third hat trick in league play this season.  Cohan and Dylan Ness each netted two goals, and Lee Whiston and Diouguardi each had one in the victory.  Goaltender Carter Kuhlman made 9 saves to claim his first CDYHL win this season.   In the final game on Sunday morning, the Leafs skated to a 9-1 victory.  Freitas tallied his fourth hat trick in only nine CDYHL games with one goal in the second period and two in the third.  Reagan Martens, Gunnar Gleasman, Josh Ness, Dylan Ness, Whiston and Dioguardi also scored as Aspen claimed its fourth victory this season to move into sole possession of third place in the CDYHL standings.

Squirt B: On Saturday, the Leafs made the quick trip to Glenwood to face off against their down valley rival.  After a close start to the game, Aspen quickly pulled away with five unanswered goals to claim a 6-1 win.  Wyatt Shepherd and Valen Bruice each scored twice for the Leafs and Tyler Passero recorded his first goal of the season.  The Leafs outshot the Grizzlies 20-4.  Completing the weekend series at home at Lewis Arena Sunday, the Leafs once again dominated the game, skating to a 6-0 victory.  Bruice registered his first hat trick this season, and Chase Hart, Austin Sherry, and Sienna Garaffa rounded out the scoring.  Goaltender Aaron Levey made 7 saves for his first shutout this season.
