Aspen Wins in Thrilling Shootout! 15U Team Finishes Second...

The Aspen Leafs 19 and under team took a page out of the Women’s Olympic Gold Medal Game with a thrilling shootout victory to claim the MSGHL playoff championship and State title on Sunday at the Edge Ice Arena in Denver.  The Leafs defeated the Summit Lightning 2-1.  Aspen’s Katie Yocum tied the game 1-1 with five minutes left in the third period.  After two scoreless sudden death overtime periods, the game went to a shootout.  In the sixth round, Kaelin Harris lit the lamp scoring the lone goal, and goaltender Sammie Jaworski was perfect in net stopping all six breakaway shots.  Also in Denver, the Leafs 15U team finished the playoff tournament in second place.  In the final game, Aspen came back from a 3-0 deficit against Salt Lake City almost tying the game before giving up a late empty net goal. The Leafs12U team finished the playoff tournament in third place.
