Aspen Defeats the Livonia Knights 2-1

Aspen made history by winning their first game in the USA Hockey National Tournament today.  The Leafs defeated the Livonia Knights 2-1 in a shootout to claim an important pool play victory.  After giving up a goal three minutes into the contest, Laney Martens tied the game early in the third period off an assist from Casey Chesner.  Following a scoreless overtime period, the two teams battled it out in a shootout.  Lilli Armstrong scored the lone goal in the second round to lift the Leafs to victory.  Goaltender Annika Anderson was solid in net stopping 25 shots.  Tomorrow (Friday) Aspen faces off against the East Coast Wizards, the top ranked team in the nation.  The Wizards won their first game pool play game earlier in the day 2-0 over the Highland Park Falcons.
